Honda Civic Ek Hatch

Ordered a new manual rack to replace my stock PS rack, but i cant find any solid info on what all i need besides the rack itself. Ive read the joint connecting the pinion gear to the steering column may or may not be different sizes for PS and manual. And the C-bracket holding the passenger side of the rack to the subframe may also be different sized than the PS bracket. Ive been searching for days and mostly all i can find is threads where people talk people out of buying a manual rack and into just converting their PS rack into a manual.

Im not doing that. I know the manual rack actually has a longer L2L than the PS rack, and to be honest, I dont care. A PS rack without PS will most likely fail inspection. I dont want to switch out parts in my PS rack to convert it, i want a legit manual rack.

Any help is appreciated, just dont tell me to loop the lines and convert it to a manual rack. Edit: Majestic honda shows the same part numbers for both upper and lower pieces of the passenger side mounting bracket. I cant seem to find where the joint is listed.yet. 53323-SM4-013 4 JOINT B, STEERING (Cx/Dx) 53323-S04-003 4 JOINT B, STEERING (Lx/Ex) So it looks like you need a manual joint, I know I needed one in my Integra when I did a manual swap. With the passenger side I just doubled up with the bushing so if the 96-00 is anything like the Integra you can do the same. I couldnt find the pn's for that joint anywhere. The brackets that go around that bushing are the same though from manual to PS.

And just from looking at this manual rack the bushing looks a lot beefier than the one on a PS rack so hopefully i wont need to do anything with the bushing. I know in EG's you have to double the bushing up too, or swap the subframe and use the manual brackets with one bushing. I'm not sure about 96-00 civics but on 92-95 civics the subframes and d brackets are different. A manual rack will work on a power subframe with modifications to the power subframe and a manual d bracket, not a big deal imo if you can't find a manual subframe. Got that part sorted out. EK's dont require swapping the subframe or modding the bracket.

The brackets and subframe is the same from manual to power steering models. (Aside from the holes/cutouts for the power steering lines, the rack mounting is the same though.) Now the hunt begins for a manual steering U-Joint. Update on my swap. Completed it earlier. Did not have to drop subframe. Disconnected the exhaust. Couldn't get the bitch pin out but if you can it'll greatly help.

I also removed the top gear portion where the lines hook into on my power rack so it was easier to pull out. Basically I pulled mine out the way Eric the car guy on you tube did it. I also removed both tie rods to give me more clearance I also had ordered piece 18 & 19 for the manual rack. The large triangle grommet from the power rack fit pretty well on the manual rack so to.me it seems good. The passenger side clamp was complete bolt up no issues there and the steering wheel joint is one I got off eBay for a 94 del Sol si Also if you look at the diagrams above 18 & 19 take the place of the part that's removable on the power rack.

Can't wait to test drive tomorrow Oh and my car is a 98 sedan and my manual rack is from a 97 CX hatch. Password Please enter a password for your user account. Note that passwords are case-sensitive. Password: Confirm Password: Email Address Please enter a valid email address for yourself.
